WHAT IS DIRECT PRIMARY CARE?

Primary care designed around the patient — not insurance billing.
Direct primary care (DPC) is a membership-based model that allows you to have a direct, ongoing relationship with your provider without relying on insurance for routine primary care.
Members pay a flat monthly fee for comprehensive primary care services, which allows us to spend less time on insurance billing and more time caring for patients. Whether you come 3 times a year or 3 times per month, there are no visit limits. You’ll know exactly what your membership costs each month — no surprise bills or unexpected visit fees.
Because our practice is supported by membership rather than high-volume insurance reimbursement, we are able to intentionally limit the number of patients we care for. This means longer visits, easier access to your provider, more time to address concerns thoroughly, and a greater focus on prevention, education, and long-term health — instead of rushing through a packed schedule.

WHY WE STARTED FAIRWAY HEALTH

We started Fairway Health because we saw a need for a better way — a model that puts people before paperwork, numbers, rushed appointments, and the pressures that too often shape modern healthcare.
We believe healthcare should be personal. Every patient deserves time, attention, and a relationship with a provider who truly knows them — not just their chart.
Our goal is to create a place where you feel heard, supported, and cared for as a whole person. A place where you have the time to ask questions, understand your health, and feel empowered to make decisions about your care.
At Fairway Health, we’re building healthcare around what matters most: you.

MEET THE TEAM

Co-Founder & Family Nurse Practitioner
Madeline Edwards is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and co-founder of Fairway Health. She earned her nursing degree from Queens University of Charlotte and completed her graduate education at the University of Cincinnati.
A lifelong interest in health and wellness has shaped both her personal life and her approach to medicine. She spent 14 years as a competitive gymnast, later cheered at NC State (Go Pack!), and remains an avid runner.
Madeline has a particular passion for primary care and preventive medicine. Throughout her career, she became increasingly frustrated by a healthcare system that often leaves too little time to truly understand patients, investigate their concerns, identify risk factors early, and focus on prevention before health problems develop. She believes great primary care requires time—not only to listen, but to review the bigger picture, recognize patterns, answer questions, coordinate care, and help patients make informed decisions about their health. Fairway Health was created to make more of that possible.
Outside of medicine, Madeline enjoys spending time with her husband, whose love of golf eventually convinced her to pick up the sport herself. She may have co-founded Fairway Health, but keeping her own ball in the fairway remains very much a work in progress—especially when the 3-wood comes out.

Co-Founder & Family Nurse Practitioner
Lauren Lewis is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and co-founder of Fairway Health. Originally from Kinston, North Carolina, her interest in health and wellness began at a young age and eventually led her to earn degrees in exercise physiology and biology.
Lauren began her career as a wellness coach and exercise specialist before returning to school to pursue nursing. She later worked as a nurse at Duke University Hospital, where she developed an appreciation for combining modern medicine with preventive and holistic approaches to help patients achieve better long-term health. She went on to earn her master’s degree and become a certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
With experience spanning primary care, orthopedics, regenerative medicine, and aesthetics, Lauren brings a broad perspective to patient care. She is passionate about looking beyond isolated symptoms to understand the bigger picture of a patient’s health and believes that education, prevention, and individualized care are essential to helping patients feel and function their best. Fairway Health gives her the opportunity to practice with the time and flexibility to put those principles into action.
Outside of medicine, Lauren is engaged to her golf-obsessed fiancé—who, along with Madeline’s equally golf-obsessed husband, is actually the reason Lauren and Madeline met in the first place. That introduction grew into a friendship, a shared vision for a different approach to healthcare, and eventually Fairway Health.
